Things to Take on a Fun Day Outdoors With Your Infant, Toddler, or Preschool Child

72513 042.JPGSummer is almost here and that means plenty of outdoor fun, swimming, attending outdoor events, and playing outside. A fun day in the sun can be enjoyable for children of all ages. Even infants and toddlers appreciate all of the exciting activities during a stress-free day outside with the family. Before you find your comfortable spot for fun in the sun, consider these ideas for items to carry to make everyone more comfortable and prepared.

If you have an infant, always be watchful, even after using sunscreen. Direct sunlight for a prolonged period of time can be dangerous. Also, pay close attention while your toddler enjoys the free mobility that the outdoors can offer. If you are around strangers and have a limited view, hold your child's hand. You can also create a safety zone on a blanket, where your toddler can safely move around within your view. With all of the fun that comes from spending time outdoors, younger children can still get easily bored.

To make the most of a fun day together, here are a few more things to take with you to make it a great day in the sun:

  • Carry plenty of water. Children can easily become dehydrated when they are active in the heat of the summer. Keep them hydrated with their own water bottle.
  • Use sunscreen to protect your family's skin.
  • Carry snacks. While food may be available, infants and toddlers are much easier to satisfy when they get to enjoy their favorite snacks at any time.
  • Take your own entertainment. Download books, music and games on your mobile or other hand held device. Bring paper, markers, puzzles, books, and games the whole family will enjoy, including your toddler and preschooler.
  • Consider a change of clothes for young children. If you are having fun outside, a spill is always possible. A change of clothing makes it easy tochange without interrupting the fun.
  • Pack hats or umbrellas. You can create your own shade very easily with a hat or umbrella.
  • Take any toiletries that you may need.
  • Pack your hand sanitizer, wipes, and napkins for snacks.
  • Be sure to check the details of your outside event and find out what will be provided. You will also find many additional tools for fun outside at your local outdoors store.

At Kids 'R' Kids Learning Academy of Lake Norman, we understand the need for children to have plenty of room to safely move and explore. That's why our center is approximately 17,000 square feet with 11 classroom suites, a cafeteria, a large activity gym for before and after school students, and four large play areas separated by age groups.

We invite you to stop by for a tour, see our state-of-the-art facility, and learn about the many safety precautions that we have implemented for your child’s safety indoors and outdoors.
